To The Water On Mars

by Clare Kelly

when the antonym becomes a stone

the angel turns her back

direct from the chocolate chip cookie muse

heaven’s music plays at night

where the fish are stored to sleep

in a very floaty velvet pond

still the star protects its stray

dailies leaving for the valley

the wallows of the evening

feel the days that disobey

all the futures of the air

gift the earring of the morning
